Sports of any kind are well-known for causing tension, especially between rival fans, but we don’t usually see quite the same level of tension between players. Professional golfer Rory McIlroy recently showed the opposite of restraint at a recent game after a confrontation with a caddie.
Golfer Showed No Restraint
The altercation that shocked everyone happened at the recent Ryder Cup event when Mcllroy’s Europe was playing against their USA opponents. McIlroy was pictured being held back by Shane Lowry when he erupted in anger against Justin Thomas’ caddie Joe LaCava.
The argument started on the grass and even moved to the car park, where Rory was yelling at the caddie about how disrespectful he had been to him, stating that caddie LaCava refused to move out of his line of sight on the 18th hole while McIlroy prepared to take a shot.
How Everything Happened
According to Europe captain Luke Donald, McIlroy asked the caddie to move politely, but the man continued to stay there, further angering the Northern Irishman.
Tension Isn’t Good for Anyone
The incident began when the American team decided to retaliate against the European crowd and started waving their caps at them. LaCava’s interaction made everything worse. He was in Rory’s line of sight, and while the golfer had asked him to move politely, he continued to stay there. Matters only got worse when the caddie started waving his own cap around to distract McIlroy—which the golfer labeled a “disgraceful” move.
It just goes to show – no sport can go without some tension!
